After the Great Fire of London in 1666, the authorities turned to Sir Christopher Wren to build a new cathedral. His building became a landmark on the London skyline, and a symbol of British life. Now filled with stunning mosaics and monuments, it has hosted many important ceremonial events, including the wedding of Prince Charles and Lady Diana, and the funeral of Winston Churchill.
Our typical highlights tour explores the dome from inside, looking at the different eras of decoration including the Choir’s fine wrought ironwork screens and the canopy over the high altar. We’ll also see monuments to English heroes such as Lord Nelson and the Duke of Wellington. For beforehand or afterwards, the surrounding area offers many lunch options; the risotto at Strada is worth trying, especially If you’re lucky enough to get a table with a view of St Paul’s.
